The Big Four Banks

The United Kingdom has four big banks based in the UK and is referred to as “the big four banks”. It gets a bit complicated as some of these have various subsidiaries which are very well known but run by one group.

  • HSBC (HSBC Bank plc, HSBC Private Bank (UK) Ltd, First Direct)
  • Lloyds Banking Group (Lloyds Bank, Halifax, Bank Of Scotland, HBOS)
  • The Royal Bank of Scotland Group (The Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest, Ulster Bank, Coutts, Adam and Company, Drummonds Bank)

Barclays UK

HSBC Bank plc just like Barclays is one of the largest banking and financial services company worldwide with over 7500 offices in over 80 countries.

First Direct UK

First Direct is a telephone and interested based bank in the UK, it is owned and operated by HSBC Bank plc. It has an estimated 1.25 million customers which is growing extremely fast due to it being highly rated by customers in various polls.

Santander UK

Santander UK plc is a UK based bank owned by Banco Santander, S.A (Spain) and has over 20,000 employees and 14 million customers.
